Akua Donkor, Founder of Ghana Freedom Party, Passes Away
Akua Donkor, the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and a prominent advocate for farmers and women’s rights, has passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra. The cause of her death is yet to be confirmed, however, unconfirmed sources suggest that she had been ill for a short period.
Born in February 1952, Donkor was renowned for her bold and outspoken approach to addressing the needs of grassroots communities. Her passion for politics was evident in her multiple runs for the presidency, despite facing significant challenges and limited resources.
Donkor’s determination and perseverance inspired many, particularly women and farmers, whom she tirelessly advocated for throughout her career. In fact, she was one of three women presidential candidates cleared to contest the 2020 presidential elections, where she placed fifth out of 12 candidates.
